I had forgotten that there was a small grocery/deli on every block. Bread and milk were just steps away and you only had to go to Safeway for monthly supplies. However, we did much of our monthly shopping at a place we called the can house. I think it was in the Mission somewhere, like a grocery warehouse. We did much of our produce shopping at the Farmers Market, which was a very comprehensive place at the time.
